Penguins

We were absolutely amazed at the variety of environments in which we found penguins.  As they get their food from the sea, they can live in what we consider to be very desolate, unhospitable surroundings like the dry plains near Puerto Madryn, Argentina.  They also thrive on the steps of Otway Sound, Chile as well as the greener environments of the Falkland Islands and lush green of Ushuaia, Argentina.  Had we been in these areas a month earlier, we would have seen tens of thousands of penguins.  However, by March they were molting and most had already moved on to other feeding areas.
